20:25Z 80 WV Monongalia Westover A National Weather Service survey team confirms a microburst/straight line wind damage near Westover in Monongalia county, West Virginia. A severe thunderstorm rolled through the Morgantown area on Thursday afternoon. The storm produced a microburst with winds between 70 to 80 mph. Numerous trees came down in the Westover area. A metal roof from a car dealership was blown off in downtown Morgantown, while trees were uprooted on the campus of West Virginia University. The strong winds knocked down or uprooted trees sporadically eastward until the storm reached the Pleasant Hill Cemetery.

Up to 45,000 residents of the county were left without power for several hours, in some cases well into the next morning. The 911 Center estimated that 70 percent of the damage was across the northern part of the county with 30 percent in the southern part. Several roads were blocked from downed trees as well, including parts of Georgia Highways 85 and 92 near and just south of Fayetteville. There were no reports of structural damage, however.

Damage was quite significant in the Smyrna area, where several roads were blocked form downed trees, including major roads such as South Cobb Drive and Cumberland Parkway. A 19-year male resident of Mableton was killed following the storms when a large tree fell on him while trying to clean up another tree that had fallen during the storms.

22:17Z 53 GA Fulton Atlanta The Fulton County Emergency Management Director and the public reported that at least a dozen trees were down across the north part of the county in the Buckhead and Sandy Springs areas. A number of roads were blocked from downed trees, especially across the northern part of the county. Two females in their 60s were killed when a large tree fell on their Mazda Miata sports car while traveling on West Paces Ferry Road at Nancy Creek Road, approximately four miles west-northwest of Buckhead. A downed tree limb on the MARTA tracks near the Arts Center Station caused delays for southbound trains. Several power lines were also down across the area with thousands of residents across the county left without power for several hours, many even into the next day. In addition, a UPS truck was set on fire when a large tree fell on the vehicle.

The storm damage was visible from PA 287 on Oregon Hill in Pine Township about 3 miles south of the Tioga County border. There was a swath of large trees down in a general west to east direction on both sides of the road for about a half mile. These downed trees continued deep into the woods on both sides of the road. The surveyed evidence was strongly indicative of downburst straight-line wind damage.

The downed trees fell on vendor booths and cars causing widespread damage and multiple injuries. There were no fatalities.
